2/6/17 Surviving High School

School can be very overwhelming as you get older. Spending time with family, making and keeping friends, joining clubs, keeping up with school work; all of these things and more go into your thoughts every day. It might feel like you need more arms, energy, and time to keep up with it all.

Let's take some time to reflect on this concept. Please write 6 sentences total answering the questions below. Include two images or a video that you think best represents what you are feeling right now in your high school career.

What methods do you use to manage your time and survive the week?

Do you enjoy high school? Why or why not?

Do you think you will miss it when it's over?

how to ace job interview questions: part 2

Now that we've talked about how to create a positive first impression, it's time to think about what you'll be asked during the interview and how you'll want to answer.  Today we'll go over a few ideas in class and you will interview each other.  To prepare, please have a look at this article for reference:

how to ace job interview questions: part 1

Last week we talked about how to prevent yourself in an interview.  Here is a brief recap:
  • Be early
  • Dress professionally
  • Bring a portfolio (or at least a pad of paper and a pen to take notes-- it shows you care)
  • Make direct eye contact
  • Shake hands firmly (but no death grip :)
  • Non-verbal communication
    • Body language
    • Distance from other person
    • Stance/posture
    • Hand gestures
    • Facial expressions
  • Para-verbal communication ("it's not what you said, it's how you said it")
    • Volume
    • Speed/pace
    • Tone
    • Pauses
  • Verbal communication
    • The words you use only account for 5% of the other person's overall impression of you!

Your Presentations...

Hey! I wanted to take a minute to explain the three parts of this assignment. All three of these parts have their own point values.

-Part One: Presenting and PowerPoint creation. You have completed this. Well done!

-Part Two: Posting the actual presentation on your blog. Please complete this before Friday 2/5/16.

-Part Three: Writing and posting your reflection. This also needs to be completed before Friday                               2/5/16.

That being said, the last thing I want you all to do is to comment on each other's work. Please view and respond to two of your classmates' posts. This should be done before class Tuesday 2/9/16.
Keep up the good work!
